From Cancer Survivor to Business Owner: The Incredible Journey of Freddy Alcazar. Freddy Alcazar’s life was turned upside down in September of 2017. He was rushed to the hospital. The doctor diagnosed him with Stage 2 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. For seven long months, Freddy fought for his life, experiencing physical and emotional pain beyond measure. But he didn’t give up. Motivated by his daughter and the support of his brothers, he fought back and beat cancer. Today, he is a successful business owner, spreading the message of hope and healing to everyone he meets.
Freddy’s battle with cancer was a life-changing experience that taught him the power of food and nutrition in the fight against illness. After doing some research, his younger brother Tony discovered that a plant-based diet could help fight cancer. Freddy immediately made significant changes to his diet and started eating a predominantly raw diet of fruits and vegetables.
After just five months of maintaining a healthy diet, Freddy was cancer-free. The transformation in his outlook and physical health amazed him, and inspired to share his story with others. So together with his family, he opened up his first business, a juice bar called “Vida.” Freddy no prior experience in business. He had a strong determination to make it work.

The first two years of running the business were tough. The family’s hard work paid off. The pandemic, while difficult for many other small businesses, put the spotlight on health and wellness stores like “Vida.” The juice bar’s plant-based menu and vegan tacos became a hit among health-conscious locals, and their acai bowls paid homage to Freddy’s Latin roots, adding a unique touch to the business.
Today, “Vida” is thriving, and Freddy is an inspiration to anyone who is facing adversity in their lives. His experience has taught him to always look for the silver lining, and to believe that there is always hope even in the darkest moments. By spreading the word about the healing power of food and the importance of a healthy lifestyle, Freddy is making a difference in his community.
If you are in the Yakima area check out “Vida” Health Bar located at 502 W Nob Hill Blvd #4, Yakima, WA 98902. This week is the 5th anniversary of the opening of their store, and Freddy’s 6th year in remission.
