The Rewards for Justice (RFJ) program is offering up to million for information that leads to Poursafi’s arrest or conviction. This program, administered by the Diplomatic Security Service, aims to combat terrorism and threats to U.S. national security.
Background on Shahram Poursafi – Rewards for Justice
Poursafi, also known by several aliases, including Shahram Pursafi and Mehdi Rezayi, is a uniformed member of the IRGC. U.S. officials believe he acted on behalf of the IRGC-Qods Force to orchestrate the murder of former National Security Adviser John Bolton.
Details of the Alleged Plot
Between October 2021 and April 2022, Poursafi attempted to hire individuals within the United States for the murder plot. He offered 10,000 for the assassination of Bolton in Washington, D.C., or Maryland, and provided resources to facilitate the act.

Legal Consequences and Designations
On August 5, 2022, the U.S. Department of Justice unsealed a criminal complaint against Poursafi for his involvement in the conspiracy. If convicted, he could face a maximum of 25 years in prison and hefty fines for his actions.
Designation as a Global Terrorist
On June 1, 2023, the U.S. Department of the Treasury designated Poursafi as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist. This designation blocks his assets under U.S. jurisdiction and prohibits American individuals from engaging in transactions with him.
