This funding aims to provide resources crucial for at-risk youth. The organization focuses on breaking the generational cycle of incarceration and reducing recidivism rates through impactful initiatives and services.

Empowering At-Risk Youth Through Mentorship

Big Brothers Big Sisters pairs local at-risk children, ages seven to eighteen, with mentors in various settings. This approach fosters healthy relationship-building and personal development. Through its community-based, school-based, and workplace-based mentoring programs, BBBSNCA empowers children—referred to as “Littles”—to develop self-confidence and make positive life choices.

The ,000 grant from ViaPath will support essential programs, including the Mentoring Children of Promise Initiative. This initiative specifically aids children who have incarcerated parents. BBBSNCA’s work has shown remarkable success in helping participants stay out of trouble while guiding them toward productive futures.

Impact Statistics Highlight BBBSNCA’s Success

Research indicates that children involved in Big Brothers Big Sisters programs have drastically improved outcomes. Participants are 85 percent less likely to engage with juvenile courts compared to their peers. Additionally, they are 70 percent less likely to initiate drug use and 64 percent more likely to achieve higher academic grades. These relationships between Bigs and Littles profoundly affect young lives in the National Capital Area.
