Not the Rocketman’s First Fall

This isn’t the first fall for the legendary “Rocketman” singer in recent years.

Los Angeles, 2012

A severe respiratory infection forced him to seek treatment in a hospital in Los Angeles in 2012. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center treated John, who came down with the infection while performing at Caesars Palace’s Colosseum.

“The attending Cedars-Sinai physician recommending that Elton not perform any concerts for approximately seven days with complete rest and antibiotic treatment to cure his respiratory infection and prevent any damage,” Caesar’s Palace said in a statement.

Auckland, 2020

He had to cancel a concert in Auckland, New Zealand, in February 2020 after losing his voice due to walking pneumonia. John, who was 72 at the time, needed assistance exiting the stage. “I’d like to thank everyone who came out to see me tonight in Auckland.” “I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia earlier today, but I was determined to give you the best show humanly possible,” John wrote on Instagram after the performance was cut short.

He added, “I played and sang my heart out, until my voice could sing no more. I’m disappointed, deeply upset and sorry. I gave it all I had. Thank-you so much for your extraordinary support and all the love you showed me during tonight’s performance. I am eternally grateful. Love, Elton xx .”

Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, 2021

He canceled his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour” dates in 2021 to undergo surgery for a hip injury sustained after an awkward fall on a hard surface caused “considerable pain and discomfort” in his hip.

When he announced the news, John explained that “despite intensive physio and specialist treatment, the pain has continued to get worse and is leading to increasing difficulties moving.”

He added, “I have been advised to have an operation as soon as possible to get me back to full fitness and make sure there are no long-term complications.”

Additional Struggles

He has also been open about his addiction struggles throughout his career. “I so wish I’d never taken a drug. But in the end, unless I’d have got sober, I wouldn’t be the person I am today,” he said in 2019. He said he had been sober for nearly three decades at the time.
