Councilwoman Martinez introduced a motion to have the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) disclose its records on stop-and-frisk stops. The motion was approved unanimously by the City Council. Following the vote, Mayor Garcetti issued a statement praising Martinez for her “tireless work to ensure every Angeleno is treated fairly and equally under the law.”
However, just one week later, the Los Angeles Times published an article revealing that Councilwoman Martinez had been caught on tape making racist, bigoted and crude remarks about Black, Jewish, Armenian, Indigenous and gay people.
