Racism is real in America Black Men Beware, it’s no secret that racism exists in our country, but it’s often hidden behind closed doors. Recently, racism has come to light in the form of police brutality and racism in the workplace. Now, the Los Angeles City Council showing its dirty hands with Councilwoman Nury Martinez. It’s clear that racism is alive and well in our government.
Rodney King, George Floyd, Emmett Till, Tamon Robinson and countless others have all been victims of America’s hate of black men. Los Angeles City Council displays the modern-day lynching by institutional racism.
The Los Angeles City Council showed its dirty hands with Councilwoman Nury Martinez. This act is an example of racism because it perpetuates the idea that some people are more worthy or deserving than others based on their skin color.
Dealing with Karen is bad enough, now we must deal with Nury. When is this crap going to stop?
Councilwoman Nury Martinez was the only Latina on the Los Angeles City Council. She was elected to represent District 6. In June 2020, she was re-elected to a second term. She was appointed by Mayor Eric Garcetti to serve as Chair of the Council’s Planning and Land Use Management Committee.
Councilwoman Martinez introduced a motion to have the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) disclose its records on stop-and-frisk stops. The motion was approved unanimously by the City Council. Following the vote, Mayor Garcetti issued a statement praising Martinez for her “tireless work to ensure every Angeleno is treated fairly and equally under the law.”
However, just one week later, the Los Angeles Times published an article revealing that Councilwoman Martinez had been caught on tape making racist, bigoted and crude remarks about Black, Jewish, Armenian, Indigenous and gay people. In the audio recording, Martinez can be heard saying that Jews are “greedy,” “selfish,” and “only care about themselves.” She also said that she would never vote for a Jew because they “don’t care about nobody but their own kind.”
The question is Los Angeles City Council may not be the only
These comments are abhorrent and have no place in our society. Racism is real in America. It must be addressed head-on. We must work together to root out racism wherever it exists, whether it’s in our police departments or in our government institutions. Only then can we hope to create a truly equitable society for all.
